Well, I finished writing Crisis a week ago. AT the time it was my longest published story. The final size was 229,000 words and 412 pages. This is dwarfed by some of the stories on this site, but it was still a huge labor.
I actually went back and looked at all the stories I've published paying attention to those set in the Swarm Cycle Universe. I was a bit surprised to find that I have now written over 500,000 words and 1000 pages of tales set in that universe. And my muse hasn't completely abandoned the universe. I have 2 partially started stories that are far enough along that I could post opening chapters here if I insisted (I won't because I have no clue when I'll get back to work on them.) another that has 2 different sections worked on. A fourth that has the first 5 pages written and 2 more that are "concepts" where I've written a couple paragraphs of story detail and perhaps a quick character biography. It's surprising just how much I find to write about.
Of course that is part of the problem right now. I believe I've mentioned wanting to write a story that I can publish on Amazon and actually be paid for. Sadly, due to a couple of concerns, the chief of which is that the Swarm Cycle is not my universe and Thinking Horndog has not published his stories, my stories of Ishtar are not ones I consider publishable. I have been working on one story I consider a prime candidate for publication. When I finished writing Crisis, I had completed about 164K words in this story. As of dinnertime today, I had increased that to 184K. My muse has definitely decided to hang around my part of the jungle for a while. Let's hope she stays for a long time.
