The new chapters have been sent to the Moderators for posting.
This weeks chapters open with repair of the wagons at Hickory Hill, and cleaning of the buildings. Mark and Seamus clean the attic where the bats had been.
Later Mark goes to see about the Admin NCO and Gwyn takes her assistants to collect the horses to pull the wagons. Two of the men recruited at Fort Jefferson are brought to Hickory Hill to drive the wagons.
After trouble with a stable owner, Mark and Gwyn purchase other supplies in Lexington, and find a source of milk and butter for the unit. Seamus has brought the remaining men from Fort Jefferson to Hickory Hill, and they are assigned quarters.
Following dinner there is a long operations meeting before Mark goes to meet Captain Moore to discuss moving the Ranger school.
The following morning, Mark goes to reconnoiter the Ohio Country. He visits a number of locations to observe what is there and how difficult the transfers are. At the operations meeting that evening Mark recounts where he had been, and what he saw. Lieutenant Lister is appointed as the Finance Officer.
The following day, Mark and Seamus set out for Mount Sterling and Gilmore's Station. Arriving at the fort they soon discover that all is not well.
Most of the locations mentioned in the story are real such as Mount Sterling and Gilmore's Station. I was unable to determine if there was a fort at Mount Sterling, and Hickory Hill is a product of my imagination based on research of the Lexington area of that time.
Enjoy these two chapters. More next week.
