I'd long intended to read the first in the series of DualWriter's Florida Friends cycle. Sometime in the last two weeks, I was scanning my "to read" list for a break from writing and decided that now was a good time to try Florida Friends #1 "Vacation?".
That was one of the dumbest things I ever did. I've never been so distracted during a NaNoWriMo. Every time I sat down to write, I decided that I'd just read one more chapter before I got into my story. As a result, I'm barely a day ahead of my writing for "A Painful Silence." Usually, I'm pretty much finished with my NaNo novel by this time of the month. Right now, I'm only about two-thirds of the way.
There was only one thing to do: finish it. So, I wrapped up chapter 76 of "Vacation?" tonight and feel like I can now focus on getting back to my writing. The story was really good, even though it was pretty impractical. I think that was what was so entertaining about it. in seventy-six days, Steve and Sue accomplished about three years worth of a normal person's life, even if that "normal" person was extraordinary. With the speed that everything happened, I expect that Sue's pregnancy will last a total of three months and that their kid will start first grade by the end of the year. I'm also pretty sure that by that time, the kid will be able to ride a top grade motorcycle, weld a perfect racecar frame in three hours, and will have made his first two or ten million dollars.
Still, this was a great read. I'm glad for the distraction, but now I really have to get back to work. "Vacation-Two"? Don't tempt me until December 1! I've got work to do!
