And the Last shall be First...

Well... maybe not first, but doing much, much better.

I thought some readers might be curious about the real life football playoffs from the Lancaster-Lebanon league that I featured in my many stories following Kyle Martin.

Six of District 3's sixteen playoff teams are from Lancaster County. District 3 includes Adams, Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties.

Some are not surprising. Manheim Central, Lampeter-Strasburg (aka LS), Cocalico (aka Norlanco) are all there. One of the year's surprise teams is Garden Spot (aka Eastern). They are 10-0 and slotted as the #6 seed in the playoff brackets.

Garden Spot has performed much better than the fictional Eastern in my stories over the past decade. Eastern was based on the team I remember from decades ago when I was growing up. Eastern has had good seasons and made the playoffs a couple times in the past few years. One obstacle they haven't overcome yet... beating Manheim Central.

So, who does Garden Spot face for their first playoff game on Friday night? Manheim Central. Good luck Spartans. Good Luck Barons. I hope both teams have good games.

On the writing front, I continue working on my next story. I am about 3/4s of the way through it. It is called "A Reluctant Hero" and is based on the early days of Al Steiner's Greenies/A Perfect World universe (with Al's kind permission).

Paradise has survived the tornado a few weeks ago and the hurricane mostly intact. The tornado did take down the pavilion at the township park.
