"Nymph of the Wood" is not the typical Nymph story that you may think it is. During the first couple of chapters, I allow you access to some of the main character's thoughts. I believe this information is of key importance to the development of the story.
Several of the chapters deal with the experience of backpacking. It is an activity that I love to do. As I relay in the story, it provides a feeling of freedom unlike any other I know. On one trip, it wasn't until we arrived home that we learned we had chosen the section of trail with the most variations in elevation. Looking at a topographical map, we saw what looked like the edge of a saw. Up and down and up and down. It was an incredibly beautiful section of the trail, but it was also quite a challenge.
The "eyes" in the water in Chapter 5 is based on a real experience. The only way that they could be seen was when the headlight was directly over my eyes. You just never know what surprises you will find while out in nature.
Several readers have emailed that they don't know where the story is headed. That is exactly the reaction I want from this story. I want you to be surprised at the end when it all comes together. At that point, I hope you say, "Ah..hah, that's why the story developed as it did."
