I received more comments on chapter 3 of "Model Student" than any other posting since I started here at SOL. They were all extremely positive and I have no end of appreciation for the readers who have taken the time to let me know how they feel about this work.
Wow! That's all he could say.
Many comments compared my work favorably with some of my own favorite stories and authors and I am truly humbled to think of being in that company. One thing, however, was consistent. No one is ready to have this story end. And as I write it, I discover that I am not ready for that either.
I read Jay Cantrell's note on this morning's chapters indicating that he will post the final chapters of "Daze in the Valley" on Monday, and I understand my readers' quandry. I am not ready for that epic to end. There is so much going on that I want to see this gang truly finish the revolution they've started and work out the loose ends of relationships and the growing business. Perhaps he's planning a sequel?
So, I don't know how long "Model Student" will be when I finish it. I don't want to simply drag it out as a day-by-day journey through four years of college with a new sex scene in every chapter. Dang! You know how exhausting it is to write those? But, I now see this as a full novel-length work (roughly 70,000 words) that will have about 10 chapters. There is a specific story to complete within this setting, and I don't want to short-change it. When I conclude it, if people want to revisit the characters in their sophomore year, I might consider doing a sequel.
No matter how that turns out, I hope you all continue to enjoy "Model Student". Keep those comments coming!
