I've finished editing the text for "Tutelam Venit : Book 1 - A Good Man" and it's now available on Smashwords and Kindle. (See my website if you want details - click the 'forum' link above)
I now face what I hoped wouldn't be, but looks it probably will be, the arduous task of converting the xml files contained within the Smashwords generated .epub file into something that SOL can handle.
I was hoping that I could just explode the .epub and use the html within, but it contains css, xml and all sorts of other shit that I just know will give the SOL submission wizard a bit of a heart attack. It looks like I'll have to open the files in Word, save them as 'filtered html' then use wordpad to strip out the Word specific tags that it insists on inserting even though you told it not to.
Still, that seems like a better option that dealing with the smart quotes and all the other crap in the .epub xml by hand.
My plan is to do the prologue and first chapter today and get them posted. Then look to see how well (or otherwise) they translate. If they're okay, I'll go ahead and do the other 47 chapters and get them queued for posting as soon as I can.
Let me be clear about my motivations once more. I want as many people as possible to read this story. That is only reason I've chosen the publication route I have (which includes posting the whole story here at SOL) and not submitting to the publisher of my last five books.
Yes, the book is available for purchase in full from Smashwords and the Kindle store for those who don't want to wait for the full 49 chapters to be posted, but the whole book will be posted here, three chapters per week over the next sixteen weeks. I hope that you, the reader, find it worthwhile sticking with. I, of course, welcome any and all feedback you may have to give about it as it progresses.
