My story "Port-a-potty" got a TPA vote of 1-1-1. I haven't gotten one of those in a while. It's such a passionate vote. A vote on the simple form of "1" would serve the purpose. "This story is disgusting and I hated it." But the voter goes one step further with the 1-1-1. What's the voter thinking? I want the author to know just how disgusting it was (authors can see each individual vote with TPA)? It shows up more prominently in the story info (there are fewer TPA votes)? I don't think anyone could in honesty give me a technical score below a 5 if they were really thinking about it. It's passion. I suppose one noble reason is to realize it's a vote of passion, so the reader knows she or he can change it later.
I'm not surprised if "Port-a-potty" turns out not to be a popular story. Some stories I just have to write because they appeal to my own tastes, however idiosyncratic. Will I end up on someone's "blocked authors" list for a single story? Guess that's a chance I take.
Gary is a sick individual. I had fun weaving his web of rationalizations, though maybe others will judge that I didn't do it artfully. As I noted on the discussion forum, though, I have to take responsibility for thinking the story is not so disgusting that finding it erotic is acceptable.
