I would like to thank everybody who has been reading week by week as these were first released, because I got to cliffhanger the fuck out of you.
The pacing on this one is admittedly a little weird, what with rushing through not one but two timeskips, but too much more of Matt without Jennifer around wouldn't have served any purpose either.
Bringing in an army base is kind of a throwback to my original concept, which would have had them on a base from the start. The military would have been using found super-tech to fight aliens or whatever, the magical girl was more a Clarke's Third Law girl, and the mech that came with it could only be piloted by some civilian guy because of reasons. The magical girl would have been fresh out of training but also the base commander's daughter for needless drama, and would have gotten together with the pilot at the end of the whole thing, probably after a lot of belligerent sexual tension. But I tossed all that out to convert it to porn, and I think for the better.
If it seems like Jennifer always waits until after sex to ask Matt to do something, it's not your imagination. Due to the structure of episode 9, it was really the only way to work a sex scene in, but it seemed to be a telling character trait so I made sure to do the same thing in episode 6, even though that one already had the sex scene covered.
I do seem to have a penchant for costume porn (that is, spending time describing clothes, not girls in cosplay having sex, although I like that too). This is what I based Jennifer's dress on.
If Matt's bit about not knowing how football works until phys ed class seemed not believable, well, it's actually true. Matt may be the closest thing to a Self-Insert Fic/Marty Stu character that I'll ever write, and that was just something I thought I'd toss in from my own life. Sure, I could have looked it up or asked someone, but I really didn't care and it always seemed like football was easier to ignore when I had no clue what was going on.
The Tsarina's title-as-name is a little tribute to the badassery that is GI Joe's Baroness. According to the internet, the actual correct female form of Tsar is Tsaritsa, but in the end I figured the Tsarina herself doesn't have web access where she's from.

As it turns out, electrical fields really do have an effect on fire, as discovered by some Harvard University chemists a few years ago. The real thing is pretty small-scale, but that's good enough for me to ramp it up to level awesome in the story.
