What insanity. I've been working on this chapter for a long time, and just haven't had the time to finish it. Every time I scrape together a spare hour, someone calls me up to tell me that something's wrong with our purchasing of a new house, or my son decides that sleep is for losers.
I can't say when the next chapter will be done, but I will try my best to get it out faster than this one did!
There's the next chapter up, and I predict about two or three left to go. Which is good, because I've been going completely stir-crazy about stories of late. I desperately need to get back to my "real" story, or else my brain is going to explode. It's been hard keeping the two stories separate for me. Not usually a problem, but I don't usually have two long stories in my head at once.
Yes, it's sadly true. But in my defense, it was episodes of Chef! that I hadn't seen in 10 years. So while you wait for the next chapter, go see some good old British comedy. Black Adder, Waiting for God, Chef!, and the like. I heartily recommend them.
I figured out how the story ends!
Before you wince, I did actually know where the story ended, but not how to get there. But now I know, and it's all thanks to the result of thousands of years of innovation.... The Shower.
For me, the shower is a font of creative ideas, and also of water, which makes it hugely efficient. Hurrah for showers!
Look for the next chapter later today!
As you can see from the time it took me to post, house hunting has not been going well!
At least I got this done, and I have some time to work on the next chapter before I'm caught up by housing issues once again. What a mess.
For your entertainment:
* Saul Darska is inspired by the hilarious Skippy's List.
* Generally the active personnel on a ship is called the crew. The full number of people who serve on that ship, whether they are on it at the time or not, is called the complement.
* The USS Nimitz (CVN-68), which the Silvana is modeled on, has a complement of 3200 not including the 2480 personnel associated with the planes it carries. It did sport a makeshift basketball court at one time, but not a soccer field which is what I'd originally written.
* The Sword of Damocles is pretty cool.
